The 147th Army Band is a group of citizen-soldier musicians stationed in Mitchell SD. We meet one weekend a month and two weeks a year to perform for various civilian and military functions. Currently, we have members from South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Iowa within our ranks. Our numerous ensembles have toured extensively around the State of South Dakota, as well as performing on a national and world stage.

Our mission as an Army band is multi-faceted. While we do maintain proficiency on all Army Common Tasks like physical training and weapons qualification, our main duties revolve around music. We work to promote readiness by performing music that raises troop morale and promotes esprit de corps, as well as providing music for troop gatherings and activities, military and religious ceremonies, and civil affairs — such as parades and other public events.
