SD National Guard’s Army Band wins national supply award

MITCHELL, S.D. – The U.S. Army announced the South Dakota National Guard’s 147th Army Band as a recipient of a Chief of Staff of the Army Supply Excellence Award.

The national award recognizes Army units who demonstrate excellence in supply operations, property accountability and resource management.

The Mitchell-based unit, whose primary purpose is to provide music throughout the spectrum of military operations, for Soldiers and civilians, won first place in the Modified Table of Organization and Equipment, or MTOE, unit category.

Paul Bader Obituary It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Paul Bader’s passing. Paul served in the 147th Army Band for 33 years. He leaves a legacy of the Army values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. He will be greatly missed by his 147th Army Band family. Army Bands Educate Students About the National Guard

The music performance teams (MPTs) of the 147th Army Band reached students in 52 schools across South Dakota during their Annual Training in February 2014. The army band does a school tour every few years with the goal of educating students about the South Dakota Army National Guard (SDARNG) and supporting recruitment opportunities. 147th Army Band Rocks Western SD Schools

Members of the South Dakota Army National Guard 147th Army Band, of Mitchell, performed for high school and middle school students across western South Dakota with a country-rock band performance Feb. 8-14.

Drive On is one of seven music ensembles the 147th Army Band offers. The band originated as a country band but has evolved to include more genres such as classic rock and pop music, since its debut in 2011.
